L´Aquila
is a city of the region of the Abruzzo and the province of the same name located
in one of the most beautiful zones of the Apeninos (the mountainous zone par excellence
of the country)
The city
is located to 120 kilometers of Rome and is the capital of the region, although
it is not the bigger city than it is Pescara in the Adriatic Sea.
Its
population goes up to around the 69000 inhabitants and its altitude is of 714
meters on the level of the sea with a surface of 466.9 km2.
L´Aquila
is located in a river basin surrounded by the highest mountains of the Apeninos
like the Great Sasso d´Italia, the Maiella and the Velino-Sirente.
Respect
to its economy, the city is an important agro and commercial center by its proximity
to important ports on the Adriatic.
Behind
Bolazo, L´Aquila is the second colder city of Italy with temperatures that can
below -20ºC during the winter.
The
cities of Rottweill (Germany), River basin (Spain) and York (Canada) are twin
of L´Aquila. The city has an old helmet conserved and a beautiful center very
well to take a walk in the afternoons.
The
Spanish influence is very important due to the occupation by several centuries;
one of its significant marks but is the Spanish Castle (Castello Spagnolo). Another
one of important monuments is 99 Fontana delle cannelle that represents the 99
Dukes who created the city where each one founded an square with a source and
a church and still conserve the majority of them.
Exists
a very little ski center called Campo Imperatore.
