Wednesday 08th September
Day 1 Road, Sulmona, Italy

After a anafternoon or warming up and training on the beautiful raod circuit yesterday, and a good nights sleep in the mountains of Italy´s Abruzzo ski fields, we set up again for a full day of racing in the center of town in Sulmona.

The sleepy cobblestone streets came to life once the music and announcments began to scream over the loudspeakers.

200m Time Trails were first order of the day.

JUNIOR LADIES: There are no tactics here, just brute force and timing. The beautiful Brittany Bowe of the United States screamed around the corners and up the straights. Her start was 'fantastica', as they say here, but her wonderful time of 20.416 could only bring her to the 3rd place on the podium. Italy´s vast collection of expert sprinters came to the front once again with Silvia Calgio reving up the crowds with blinding speed, but 20.311gained her 2nd place and the s ilver medal. It was the Colombians Jercy Puello, who was still recovering form the shocking fall that sent her to hospital 2 days ago after an incident on the track, who with an increadible time of 20.215 took gold.

JUNIOR MEN: Another great skate from South Korea's Eum Han Jun, it's evident that this great nation is now also producing a great group of skaters, each distance has seen the Korean skaters improving and gaining many podium finishes. Han Jun gained anpother silver mendal to ad to his track medals. No surprise here for Italy to take on the the time trial medals, with bronze to Simone Bellia. Gold also to Italy's Marco Falcone, well done, what a great future this young man has ahead of him.

SENIOR LADIES: Ahhhhhh Valentina (do I need to say Belloni)? Sweet revenge, as she took the gold and Argentina's Andrea Gonzales could only manage to pick up the bronze. Colombia again to take silver, young Jenifer Caicedo skated like lightening today to take this medal. Another very promising skater to watch out for.

SENIOR MEN: Ahhh (is this getting monotinous)??? One of Italy's favourite sons. 'Sprinter extroidinere'. also missed out on his gold on the track, but took it witgh a vengance today as the itallian crowed cheered him on. The name 'Luca' is also synonymous with srinting and it was Luca Saggiorato who took the silver medal from New Zealand's Kalon Dobbin, who had the fastest forst 100m in this race. Someone to watch out for in the future as his spirnting explodes is the 4th place skater form Belgium, Wouter Hebbrecht. spare a thought for Croatia's LucaMarkic who trained just as hard and tried so valently under the mide day sun to take 63rd position in senior men.
