Abruzzo
is one of the central regions of Italy composed of Pescara, L´Aquila, Chieti and
Teramo province with approximately 1.2 million residents.
The
region’s capital is L´Aquila with at least 60,000 residents while the most important
city is port of Pescara with high economic and industry activity with 150,000
residents.
The Abruzzo
region is mainly marked by the Apeninos that has special views of each town with
the famous Gran Sasso d´Italia, the tallest mountain in the country and countless
national parks.
The Gizio
and the Pescara rivers are the most important in the region, while in the Adriatic
Sea which functions as the principal voyage path for commercial ships is also,
one of the principal tourist attractions.
Regarding
communication, the region is accessible from Italy’s highway A24 and A25 and also
with different rail road lines from L´Aquila, Sulmona, Pescara, Chieti, Avezzano
and Teramo.
The Pescara
(d´Abruzzo) airport is the most important in Abruzzo and serves as the hub for
many international flights from other European countries.
Abruzzo
is surrounded by Marches and Umbria on the north, Lazio on the west side (where
Rome is) and Molise on the south.
