2006 August 09th, Wednesday
In Pamplona, Spain will hold their Trails to select their World Team for 2006.
Most of the teams that will participate in the coming World Championships that will be held in Korean city of Anyang have already chosen their teams (some like Australia and NZ did it months ago), but others have not yet selected their team, leaving it right up to the last minute to hold the selection competition.

So it is the case of the Spanish Team that now is coached by the Argentinean Carlos Lugea –who in the last years was the coach of the Indian and Venezuelan team. On August 19 and 20 they will organize the Trial competition to choose the best skaters to participate in Anyang. The team will comprise 8 athletes and 36 athletes will participate in the trials.

The first big event that Lugea managed the Spanish Team was the Senior Europeans Championships in Cassano d´Adda (Italy) where the team obtained good results like the gold medal at the men’s relays competition.

The competitions will be held at the Lagunak Track (same as the 1998 Worlds) in Pamplona. The race program is compose by 300 M Time Trial, 5000 M Elimination, 500 M Sprint, 10000 M Points/Elimination, 200 M Time Trial, 1000 M and 15000 M Elimination.

The main candidates to obtain the eight places available for the Anyang 2006 team are Ronan Sanchez, Kepa Caballero, Garikoitz Lerga, Alberto Lopez, Fernando Mejia, Mikel Alzueta, Sandra Gomez, Sheila Posada, Mikel Goñi and Joseba Fernandez.
