2006 August 09th, Wednesday
The 2006 will mark a new record of participating nations in the World Championships.
The development of inline speed skating in the world continues to grow giving good results. The boom of activity in the ‘90’s is long gone but the last year our sport showed signs of a revitalizing market in some countries. Thus the 2006 World Roller Speed Skating Championships will have a new record in the number of participating nations which gives a little push to get our Olympic dream for the 2016 Games.

The present record is from the 2004 Worlds in Abruzzo (Italy) when attended 39 nations from the five continents but this year everything seems to indicate that more than 50 countries will take the starting line in Anyang!

Latin America, East Europe and Asia mainly are the three regions that will impel the amount of participants in Anyang 2006.

From the American continent, some hours ago the Dominican Republic confirmed their first representation at a World Championships after obtaining great results at the Central American and Caribbean Games competition in Cartagena in July. From the same continent, Panama will be in Anyang for the first time in our sport and also, Ecuador, Guatemala and El Salvador will return to the competition.

The Asian region is demonstrating a big development since some years ago and the arrival of the World Championships last year in China and this year in South Korea will benefit the activity in the zone; Indonesia will have its second participation in Anyang whereas Bangladesh, Philippines, Iran, Mongolia and Thailand will attend the event for the first time. Pakistan returns to the competition after its last presentation in Santiago 1999.

East Europe is working very hard and for the first time we will can see on the start line teams from Russia, Georgia and Romania and this year will be necessary to add the Scandinavian group conformed by Finland, Denmark and Sweden.
