Day Three: 500 m

Colombia now lead the medal tally after the 500m as they won 3 out of the 4 gold metals up for grabs this morning. After some rain, Colombian Jorge Cifuentes was again public enemy #1 after scrapping with almost everyone in his semi final to make it through to the final. The American Joey Mantia was disqualified in his semi final with a very soft call, and there was a 1 hour wait for everyone while the judges watched every single heat, quarter, and semi final to make sure the 'right' people were in the final. Kalon Dobbin won another gold in the 500m with a clean race dedicating the win to the Americans for losing Mantia in the semi. Cifuentes was disqualified in the final so Lo from Chinese Taipei was advanced to the Bronze medal with the Frenchman Despaux taking the Silver. In another controversial race, Moreno from Colombia was a deserving winner of the women's 500m but her teammate Baena did block all the skaters behind even though it probably wasn't necessary. Baena took the silver.

The French can't buy a gold medal at this meet as they have failed to see any gold all meet. With only the relay to go, it looks as though the French will not win any gold medals on the track. Italy, Spain, and Argentina are also winless. But the host nation is in second place with 4 gold as too are New Zealand. The USA sits in 4th with 2 gold alongside Chile. Korea's best result was in Venezuela when they came 4th overall. If they can remain in second place, it will be a fantastic result for them.
