Located in the extreme northwest of South America, Colombia is one of the most important nations in the continent with a territorial extensión of 1.141.748 km2 being the only country to the region in having coast on the Pacific Ocean and in the Atlantic Ocean. The capital city is Bogotá is one of the more populated cities in the continent with 7 million of inhabitants. Other important cities are Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Bucaramanga. The country borders with Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Panama.

The name of ¨Colombia¨ means ¨land of Cristoforo Colombo and was devised by Francisco de Miranda to denominate the famous ¨New World¨, the actual American continent.

Geographically, Colombia is a country that surprises us with great landscapes and a big diversity of geographic situations, the Andes Mounts starts in Colombia and it is divived in three ranges, the Western, the Central and the Eastern; which are crossed by great rivers, the Magdalena and the Cauca.
