Maria
Laura Orru Italy set a new road 200m TT world
record of 18.331 to win the world 200m title.
She needed to do something special to overcome
the times of 18.463 Jennifer Caicedo Colombia
and 18.470 Andrea Gonzalez Argentina.
In the men’s race, Wouter
Hebbrecht 17.011 beat Juan Jardine Venezuela
17.071 for his 1st bronze medal of this championships
and his first world championship medal ever.
Kalon Dobbin pulled out every bit of energy
he could find to cover the 200m in an amazing
16.740 seconds but the last skater was the invincible
Gregorio Duggento who smashed Dobbins time and
covered the distance in a blistering 16.450.
His wheels were going so fast there was almost
a trail of fire following him.
Earlier, the Junior ladies event
was won by Brittany Bowe USA in 18.850 which
would have put her into 6th place in the senior
ladies, and Simone Bellia was the only junior
man to break 17 seconds beating his countryman
by three tenths of a second for the gold medal.
Today’s
session actually finished early, so all the
skaters have gone back to their hotels to rest
for tomorrow. The Australian team will have
a dinner together to reflect on the loss of
Shaun Thompson. |
