The fifth day of competition ended at the Jinam Sports Park in Yeosu and everything is ready for the closing day tomorrow after an intense week of competition with the best skaters in the world. From tomorrow, will look towards Rome 2012.

It rained in Yeosu today but that didn’t affect the schedule. The temperature today was the best so far for skating.

The Senior Men’s race was one of the best in the championships, with a high speed and the big stars of the sport fighting it out to be the champion.

The Dutchman Crispijn Ariens attacked from the start of the race getting some good points to have a chance to be on the podium. At the half way point of the race, the Belgian Bart Swings and the Frenchman Yann Guyader attacked together to do a mini-breakaway and collect some good points catching Ariens in the points ranking.

With two laps to go, Swings, Guyader and Ariens were tied on 12 points and the final two sprints would decide the new World Champion. The Frenchman got a valuable point in the last sprint lap while Swings and Ariens couldn’t score a point in the last lap (3-2-1 pts) where the Spanish Patxi Peula crossed the finish line first.

With that point, Guyader won an unbelievable race with 13 points while Swings and Ariens were silver and bronze with 12 points each. The luck finally changes for the French after two crashes on the track and one disqualification on the road.

The Asians dominated the senior ladies with a strong victory for the local idol Hyo Sook Woo (14 pts) who got her fourth gold medal in Yeosu 2011. The Taiwanese Yan Hochen was second and the Chinese Dan Guo was third getting her second bronze medal.

The junior men competed in the 20K Elimination in a great race with some fast elimination sprints. The Chinese Taipei Chao Tsucheng showed his speed on the final lap to get the fourth medal for the small Asian island country. The Chilean Hugo Ramirez was second in a great performance and the American Mario Valencia got the third medal for the US Team, the worst performance in years.

In Junior Ladies, the Colombians did very well with excellent teamwork when Yenny Serrano held the pack back while Nathalia Giraldo took a comfortable advantage to get the victory. Serrano was second while the Taiwanese Li Mengchu was third.

The 500m Sprint Finals for the juniors closed the night in Yeosu. Colombia dominated in both races. Yesenia Escobar and Magda Garces did the 1-2 for the South American team while the Venezuelan Solymar Vivas was third getting the first medal for her team.

In the male division, Juan Camilo Pérez from Colombia won a great race in a close sprint with the Taiwanese Chao Tsucheng who finally finished second. Andres Campo (Colombia) got the bronze after the disqualification of the Korean Bong Ju Choi.
